Going to school daily can become quite boring for students, that’s why an outside excursion or trip becomes crucial to ensure that students get proper time to rejuvenate themselves and become active enough to carry forward their education endeavors.
The first and foremost duty of every school is to prepare the child for the outside competent world, and that can’t be done if the students are packed within the four walls of the classroom. “Just like the cocoon nourishes and prepares the caterpillar for life as a butterfly”, in the same way, it’s important to guide the students within the classrooms and allow them to explore the world like a butterfly. A good learning experience is an amalgamation of intrinsic and extrinsic factors. A learner evolves and unfolds effectively when he/she has proper self-awareness. When a learner is self-aware he/she knows to what extent they can rise and how they can move past the boundaries. Learning outside the classroom helps in the enrichment of students’ educational experience. When the learners experience real-life applications of theories they get to know the ways of the world that can’t be learnt through books alone.
Sometimes, the spark of excitement is extinguished because of repetitive classroom sessions. Outside excursions help in igniting that spark again. The enthusiasm of students is fueled by the external environment and they become more eager to explore different things. Furthermore, maintaining a distance from conventional classrooms can help relieve the mental stress of both students and teachers. Through the aid of external/outside learning the students get to follow their instincts and put their skills to action. Some skills exist innately and some are learnt with experience. Outside learning is a form of experiential learning which helps in bringing out the innate qualities of learners as well as teaching them new skills.
Arranging small trips, picnics or excursions can help in the manifestation of skills that go unnoticed within the conventional education setup.
