The concept of holistic education has been there since the 1980s, this method came into existence to counter the US learning structure that was observed as mechanistic. However, it has roots in ancient concepts of instruction, that includes Greek and native indigenous cultures. During the 20th century, distinct methods and approaches were popularized including Maria Montessori’s self-motivated growth philosophy and the experiential learning technique by Rudolf Steiner and Emil Molt’s Waldorf.

Recently everyone has started talking about Holistic Education, but not everyone knows what exactly it is. Firstly, let’s delve into its meaning and significance. Holistic education is a concept that is based on the philosophy of educating and developing the person as a whole that goes beyond academics. The practice of rote learning has been there for a very long time and it’s high time to change the way of learning to make the students ready for the competent career world. The mind of the students should be guided to become unbounded and limitless and holistic education is the best way to fulfill that aim. Every student has their individual strength and the holistic approach helps in bringing it to the surface.

Every school needs to incorporate holistic education in their system, to make sure their students are ready to step into the real world that is not full of roses. When the child’s whole being is nurtured, a plethora of doors become accessible to him/her and he/she can choose the most appropriate one. Special models and strategies need to be formulated to squeeze out every possible benefit that Holistic education has to offer.
